The much anticipated Staff Contact Time & Retreat for Year 2009 was held on 28th December, beginning with the Staff Contact Time in the morning. The Principal, Vice-Principals and Key Personnel shared their respective Missions and Department Focus for Year 2010 during this session.
After the lunch break, staff rolled up their sleeves, sank their fingers and hands, and got themselves dirtied in the LEGO Clay modeling workshop, managed by StoneEdge Experiential. 11 teams, of about 10 members per team, were each tasked to create a clay sculptor that best represented one of our School core values / niche areas, namely:
~ School Core Values Grace
Responsibility
Integrity
Nation Before Self
Dignity
Care
Teamwork
~ School Niche Areas Go Green
Design & Technology
Performing Arts
The grey, dull-coloured clay by itself was unimpressive. However, under the groups' brainstorming sessions and surfacing of untapped talents, each piece of clay was carefully molded into unique works of art. The final results were 11 inspiring, impressive and invaluable sculptors, each piece emitting the different facets of Woodgrove Secondary School. At the end of the activity, not only did we confirm that our staff members were indeed artistically inclined, we were also reminded that our students are like clay in our hands. Their growth and development in WGS rests upon not one but upon the entire WGS family to nurture and mold them into unique adults that contribute to the better of our Nation.
